Neringa Jociute, Designer
I have a special fondness for the street fashion site, Laimikis. Their name means “lucky catch” in Lithuanian, and their post about Lithuanian designer Neringa Jociute was a lucky catch for me. When I visited the designer’s website at Yotshiutee.com I was happy to hear my favorite piece from my favorite composer – Chopin’s Nocturne in D flat, Opus 27, No. 2. Jociutewrites
When you stop to hear music, long-ago centuries and their values return to us.
The music enhances the beautiful photographs, of not only fashion, but furniture, textiles and interior design.
Learn more about how Vinius is getting ready to be the European Capital of Culture for 2009. Hmmm, I wonder if there is a way for a fashion blogger/pianist to visit next year…

Cinnamon Buns : Philosophy
I love that my piano students shower me with chocolate and body lotions every Christmas. I pulled out my Cinnamon Buns 3-in-1 (body wash, bath bubbles and shampoo) and my Cinnamon Buns Body Souffle from Philosophy. My son asked me if I was baking gingerbread…nope, just had a shower. Perfect for those of us who try to diet at Christmastime!

Last week I had the pleasure of performing piano entertainment for a Lady’s Holiday Bridge Luncheon at the Country Club. This meant lots of holiday music, eggnog, red suits and holiday pins. I was reminded of the poinsettia pin I wore when I was elementary school. A quick look online and I find so many pins to choose from – from clay dough gingerbreadmen pins to wooden button snowmen pins. I also like the (pricier) selection of pins over at Mornng Glory Jewelry. But I think my favorite is not a pin, but a bracelet, from Etsy, of course.

Christmas Santa Button Bracelet with Gingerbread Men
This funky Christmas charm bracelet has a little bit of everything from gingerbread men, tree lights, and silver-plated frames with pictures of Santa. It’s from poetsummer’s shop over at Etsy. Carrie, the artist, also designs beautiful steampunk pendants, Twilight pieces and, coming soon, something new… charm watches. Spend some time browsing…

Drawing Socials posters ©2006-2008 Ted Michalowski
My oldest son (on the left above) turns 18 today. He and his
band will be performing at a Drawing Social at the
AFA Gallery. What exactly is a Drawing Social? According to artist
Ted Michalowski, a Drawing Social is “an absolute synthesis” of music and art. Read the entire interview
here. Above is the terrific
poster that Ted drew the other night while the band was rehearsing. I’ll definitely be there tonight, hopefully along with hippie daughter and her sketch pad.

After months of hemming and hawing, I’ve decided to start selling some of the items from my mother’s vintage collection. This off-white bag is going directly to Etsy. I love its simple structure and zippered pocket. I think I might actually be able to find my keys in this little handbag. Ah, but unfortunately, it’s not one of the famous Hermes Kelly Bags which might fetch up to $10,000 on eBay.

Gill Hart has an informative article on the Kelly Bag, how it was made and how it got its name.
When faced with a pack of nosy photographers, Stephanie Pendersen, in her book, Handbags: What Every Woman Should Know
says that the shy, newly married Princess, not yet wishing to announce her pregnancy to the world, did what any woman would do and hid her secret in her handbag! Such was Kelly’s influence at the time that from henceforth, her essential accessory became known as the “Kelly” bag. (read more)
You can have your own Hermes Kelly Bag directly from your printer. Go to the Hermes website and click on Travel the World. Next choose the Kelly bag in the bottom row. Pick your favorite design and download the PDF. Print on cardstock, cut, fold and paste! Voila!
