Twiggy

Published by Cathy under Twiggy

Twiggy and the Muppets

I was watching the Twiggy Episode (Season 1, Episode 21) of The Muppet Show with my HD tonight and enjoyed this montage of Twiggy photos while she sang “In My Life.” I found an interesting tidbit on Twiggy’s website (which, by the way, is packed with Twiggy news, trivia, books, photos, movies, music, etc).

Back in 1966, Lesley Hornby was about to change her name and experience her first taste of fame which all began on a January afternoon and a trip to Leonard’s hair salon in Mayfair…

“I was in the salon for about seven hours and they were cutting and colouring it, it was all extremely exciting for me. He was brilliant, I went from this mouse like brown to the colour which I have kept now.”

Following the hair cut, Twiggy tells of the photo shoot that was to follow.

“Well after the hair cut I got on the bus to Barry’s (Lategan) and met this really sweet lovely man who was to take my photos, I mean I’d never been in front of a camera before!”

Barry Lategan describes the first photo shoot which were to produce the shots for the Face Of ‘66.

“She appeared with this short hair cut which was an extraordinary transformation in her because her face came out more prominently and she’s got a beautifully modelled face, totally well proportioned and there was something very new to me because she had painted her own eyelashes below her eyes and this was something no one had been doing or had done, she sat in front of the camera and it was dazzling…”

So that explains those lower lashes!

Legwarmers from Corpseknit

Published by Cathy under Corpseknit, steampunk

Corpseknit legwarmers

I seem to be finding legwarmers everywhere these days. My weekend Etsy search led me to this pair from Corpseknit. They feature an elegant plaid tie adorned with a pressed metal dragon button (see insert). Like many of my favorite designers, Corpseknit designer Jessica Rose, has another artisitic talent. She’s also the keyboardist for the Canadian metal band, Woods of Ypres.

Here’s what she says about her work:

I studied Fashion Design in Toronto, and graduated with highest honours in 2003. I am now working out of my humble home studio in Kitchener, Ontario.  My work is produced using a mechanical vintage Japanese knitting machine. Creating this way allows me to knit delicate yarn in intricate patterns that I would not be able to do by hand. With great patience and meticulous attention to detail, each piece is individually knit, blocked, and seamed.

If you’re a fan of Victorian fashion or Steampunk be sure to visit Corpseknit’s Shop. (check out the fingerless gloves… they’re on sale until October 22.)

Arm Warmers from SockDreams

Published by Cathy under Stockings

Golden Dragon Arm Warmer

I was looking for white knee socks for HD tonight (surprisingly hard to find in Walmart or Target)… and I came across these unusual Golden Dragon Arm Warmers at SockDreams.com. These are from the Tabbisocks label and the pattern also comes in over-the-knee socks.  Surprisingly, I’m seeing a lot of knit legwarmers. They’d certainly come in handy for the 80’s party I’m going to next weekend.

Samantha Cole London

I found Samantha Cole London over at Fashionspace and I see that she likes the puffy shirt, too. A graduate of the London School of Fashion, SCL is based in London.

SCL is currently focused on developing her womenswear brand that caters to image conscious, confident, independant discerning women who dare to be different, set-apart, unapologetic and enjoy a cosmopolitan lifestyle.

It seems no matter how much I try to add color to my wardrobe, I always come back to black and white. SCL has taken B&W to new heights!
